La evolución de una acuarela: Gaviota sombría / The evolution of a watercolor: Lesser black-backed gull (Larus fuscus)

watercolor on paper/acuarela sobre papel 1998
watercolor on paper/acuarela sobre papel 2008

This one is not my best composition job but I love the side light in this portrait and the texture that I made on the blues and on the grey areas with a squre shaped brush. This is a good example of a the improvement of a painting with the time. Initially, I painted this one for a book and it was published but I was not very happy with the result. Ten years later I decided to rework the background and add more life to the bird and it became one of my favorite watercolors. Unfortunately, the paper was croped and I couldn´t add more room at the top to fix the composition issue :-(
At the end, last year was sold.
